“Assemblages of organic species and of abiotic actors make history, the evolutionary kind and the other kinds too.”  Donna Haraway.

By 2021, climate change and a succession of wildfires have caused the population of bark beetles to increase to epidemic proportions.

I stumbled upon galleries of bark beetles in the forest on an uninhabited island, I was curious to observe these patterns and try to unravel its secret code. The bridge to the island was removed for the winter, but the mystery of bark beetles continued to haunt me. Investigation led me into a maze of archival photographs of forest farms around the world, shots on various types of pinhole cameras, memoirs, newspaper clippings, and mass culture phenomena.
